Charity 2: Rockinghorse – Please Click Here to Donate
In April 2012 I ran The Brighton Marathon in support of The Rockinghorse Children’s Charity, the Brighton based charity helping children for over 40 years. It was set up in 1967 by Dr Trevor Mann, who recognised there was a real need for additional healthcare services for sick children and babies.
Rockinghorse are best known today for their work with the new Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital (The Alex) and their continued support of the Trevor Mann Baby Unit. Rockinghorse raise money for life-saving medical equipment as well as providing much-needed sensory equipment and facilities for children with disabilities across Sussex.
In June of 2012 I experienced first hand the benefit of having a dedicated Children’s hospital attached to the Royal Sussex County NHS Hospital, my son Harry, playing on his skateboard at the park dislocated and fractured his ankle….agony!
He was scraped up by the brilliant Paramedics and transported by Ambulance, initially going through A&E for X-Ray and first Plaster and then was delivered out into the calm and safety of the Royal Alex, from then on the resulting ‘screws’ and all further treatments came through The Alex, as a parent it is the calm, modern, warm environment that you want for your child, away from much of the hussle and harsh environment that is the County.
Harry’s troubles were light compared with some of the very sick children that are treated in the The Alex, but this facility, its staff and its equipment is such a valuable asset that I support whole heartedly.
